So the news is out that Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White have made their statements to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft to test and expose the WNBA’s policy on who is ‘eligible’ to play in the league.
The CBA states that ‘only women’ are allowed to play in the WNBA, but now they are forced to answer the question of “What is a woman?”
This discussion in the media has been stirring quite a bit since Sophie Cunningham made her statements in protest of having transgender women play in the league. There seems to have been some disagreements amongst players (and some coaches even) as they supported the idea of bringing in trans-women to the league.
Now, the league has to make their call on it. What are they going to do with it?
It’s an interesting take, and honestly though from my perspective is one that they should have figured out anyway. If they are going to allow ‘only women’ to play in the league, then that needs to be defined (whether you agree with Kanter Freedom and White or not).
So I’m curious to hear what the rest of the world has to say.
